Anne with an E Season 1
I was shocked by all of the abuse Anne went through at the orphanage and her previous keeper through flashbacks. I understand the creators of the show wanted things to be realistic as to how orphans were treated back then but I had no idea that life was so much worse. I hated the other orphans who were terrible to Anne, especially the one who seemed to be the leader. I also hated the classmates and teacher who picked on her. I do have to say I loved it when Gilbert punched Billy. He did deserve what he got since he was messing with the wrong guy.
I am happy that Anne was
able to, even though it was slowly, make friends. I liked the
contrast between Anne and Diana. You have one who is free-spirited
and speaks her mind while the other is prim and proper since that was
how she was raised. And yet, they got along so quickly. It was also
nice that Diana stayed friends with Anne when the other girls their
age thought Anne was a disgusting orphan for the things she said.
Which, like Matthew said, she should not have been exposed to since
she was still so young.
I enjoyed all of the
interactions between Anne and Gilbert. And that does include the
moments when she ignored him because “Ruby has dibs” on him. I
think that when he saw Anne in a burning house, he probably had a
heart attack. I could just imagine his thoughts if they were married
and he saw her in a burning house trying to put out the fire. The
moment when Anne and Gilbert looked at one another during the last
episode without saying anything while poor Jerry just stood there, I
kept telling them to confess their feelings for one another. Even if
it was unrealistic given the short time they knew each other.
I did enjoy what Anne with an E offered in only seven episodes. I went through several emotions
because of what was either said or done. I recommend watching this.
The 1980's movies will always be my favorite but the show will always
be a very close second.
